United Nations

The United Nations Headquarters are located on international grounds along First Avenue, on the banks of the East River. If you want to see the United Nations Headquarters, you can get on a guided tour (the only way to see the conference rooms). When I went on Oct 10, 1998, there weren't any councils in session, so we were able to see all the conference rooms: the Security Council (picture below), the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council (suspended operation Nov 1, 1994) and the General Assembly (picture below). The fifth of the Councils, the International Court of Justice is not located in New York, but in the Netherlands (Vredespaleis, The Hague). The tall building you can see on the right, is where the Secretariat is housed.
The Security Council. It consists of 15 members. 5 permanent members and 10 elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms.
General Assembly Hall. The General Assembly is the only Council where all member nations are present.
